Friends Made
at Eddie's Kids Kamp!

Press Release                                                              August 11, 2005

Ever wonder whatever happened to that school-time friend?

Friends are being made and kept at Eddie’s Quilting Bee (EQB) where summer Kids Kamps are currently in session.
A year ago during a previous kids’ class, two students met – one from Hollywood, and the other from Iowa.  They kept in contact, pen-paling often.  Then, through their parents, they arranged to meet again at the annual camp. This year they are excelling at sewing while their friendship grows as well.

This kids’ camp has been ongoing for the last four weeks.  We are in our last two days of the last camp.  Please send a photographer and staff-writer to interview the kids during these times and dates (this is a cute photo opportunity and heartwarming story).

The children will be available from 1-4 on Thursday (8/11) or Friday (8/12).

“The Story”

My name is Cordelia Perez I live in Beverly Hills and I write to my friend Nora Tjossen at Grinnell Iowa. I met my pen pal last fall vacation during a sewing class at Eddie’s Quilting Bee. We sat next to each other for a week while we sewed different projects.By Friday we were exchanging addresses. This year I wrote Nora and she wrote back, we alo used a little bit of e-mail. (My sister Isabella also is in this years class reminded me to write) We soon realized our parents were taking us to see our Grandparents Maureen Christine & Jerry Parks in Menlo Park the same time as Nora would see her Grandparents Clint & Marilyn Smith in Palo Alto. So far we’ve made 5 projects.

I am really grateful to EQB for helping me meet Nora.

Eddie Leone, store proprietor, schedules over 1000 classes per year, including: beginning sewing, machine embroidery, sewing machine instruction, beginning to advanced quilting and kids clubs on certain Saturdays.

EQB has over 5000 bolts of cotton fabric, everything to sew or quilt with and 75 different sewing machines to choose from.

Eddie’s Quilting Bee continually contributes to the community. This store is a depot for cotton fabric donations to be distributed to a “Quilts for Kids” organization which makes quilts for deprived children.
